EDITORIAL METHOD

Method first. Claims second.

Methodology is the product: a repeatable way to turn a reader's question into a decision aid without borrowing another service's claims.

Method is a boundary, not a ranking

01 / THE LOOP

Four moves keep the brief honest.

Each page starts from one reader job and ends with a user-readable next check. The loop can stop at an open question; it does not have to produce a winner.

  1. 01 Frame Define asset, market, intent and the one page job.
  2. 02 Observe Record what the dated source actually shows.
  3. 03 Qualify Attribute service wording and mark conflicts.
  4. 04 Aid Turn evidence into a check, matrix or scenario.

02 / EVIDENCE STATES

Words carry different weights.

An observation can be true for a date without being a permanent product property. A service-attributed estimate is not a guarantee. A gap is not permission to guess.

Observed
A dated interface element or first-party observation is visible.
publish
date required
Attributed
The service publishes the wording; the brief repeats it with attribution and limits.
qualify
not a guarantee
Conflicting
Evidence points in different directions; keep the wording qualified.

03 / DECISION AID

Make the next question specific.

A good brief turns a broad request into a small check the reader can complete without guessing.

Reader worksheet

WRITE / ASK
01
Reader input

Write down

  • Asset, network and direction.
  • Every visible fee and the date it was seen.
  • The exact wording that would change your decision.
02
Source request

Ask for

  • A current primary source for mutable facts.
  • Attribution beside service-published estimates.
  • A clear stop point when evidence conflicts.

04 / LIMITS

A good method knows when to stop.

No source means no positive claim. A gap stays visible until a current, attributable source closes it.
